<30> The 5 A Day for Better Health Program
The 5 A Day for Better Health Program is a national initiative to increase consumption of fruits and vegetables by all Americans to 5 to 9 servings a day. Eating 5 to 9 servings of fruits and vegetables a day will promote good health and reduce the risk of many cancers, high blood pressure, heart diseases, diabetes, stroke, and other chronic diseases.
The program seeks to do this by increasing public awareness of the importance of eating 5 to 9 servings of fruit and vegetables everyday for better health, providing consumers with specific information about how to include more servings of fruits and vegetables into their daily routines, and increasing the availability of fruits and vegetables at home, school, work, and other places where food is served.
Founded in 1991 as a partnership between the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and Produce for Better Health Foundation, 5 A Day is the nations largest public/private partnership for nutrition. The program includes federal, state, and local government agencies, industry, and volunteer organizations.
※ 1 serving of fruits and vegetables should fit within the palm of your hand - it's a lot smaller than most people think.
The 5 A Day for Better Health Program
